THE TOWN OF PEABODY is a city in Essex County, Massachusetts and is part of the Greater Boston area. Initially, Peabody was a town of many farms, but with the many streams throughout the area, they then gave way to water powered mills mainly for the leather industry.
The tanneries were a mainstay of Peabody’s economy well into the latter part of the 20th century. The local high school sports teams use the nickname Tanners as the their mascot of today. Later, the town grew with other economic developments such as the automobile revolution, and later the Northshore Mall. Several medical and tech companies came forth in the industrial park known as Centennial Park.
In the western part of Peabody grew into a developed residential area of middle and upper class families. Brooksby Farm is a historic farm and conservation area that is a popular site for local townspeople. It also hosts the Salem County Club, a private owned country club with a professional golf course.
Nearby are many great Boston affiliated hospitals and medical facilities as well as private schools and academies.
